Chefchaouen province, the historic heartland of cannabis cultivation in Morocco, recorded a spectacular expansion of its legal sector during the 2024–2025 season. Cultivated areas under the regulatory framework more than doubled, jumping from 616 to 1,347 hectares — confirming the overwhelming support of local farmers for the legalisation process.

This dynamic mobilised 1,435 farmers organised within 104 cooperatives accredited by ANRAC. Structuring producers into cooperatives is a key lever for accessing financing, technical training and legal markets, both domestically and internationally.

For AMCUC, these figures concretely illustrate the success of Morocco's model for transitioning to structured, legal cannabis. The association nonetheless calls for accelerating the downstream value chain — particularly in industrial processing and pharmaceutical production — so that farmers can benefit from the full added value of their crops.
